Lawmakers say state police will not be furloughed
Reps: Municipalities having to pay
for state police services unlikely

HARRISBURG — State House and Senate Republicans are saying the governor’s proposal to eliminate 800 state police troopers, as part of the new state budget, will not happen.
“That is a scare tactic being used by the Rendell administration,” Sen. John Gordner (R-27) said. “I’ve been in the legislature for 16 years and we have never had state police layoffs.”
Gordner said 73 percent of the overall state police budget comes from the motor license fund, while 27 percent comes from the general fund.
