At the annual Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Police memorial service held in Harrisburg honoring Pennsylvania Police Officers who have paid the ultimate sacrifice; Governor Ed Rendell decided to use the occasion to do a little politicking and push his anti-gun agenda  because he cares, he really cares about cops. Ask any police officer who has been involved in contract negotiations with a Rendell administration and they’ll tell you he cares. And when Rendell showed up at the 2006 Pennsylvania FOP Convention seeking an endorsement, the chorus of boos from the assembled cops let Rendell know that they care too and they don’t forget.

There was applause when Rendell finished his remarks at the memorial service but no boos. Cops know and even most politicians that there are times when politics are put aside; when honoring the memories of fallen brothers and sisters for instance. Although there are some who just can’t help themselves.
